Statement of intent

The opening sequence for a documentary about the importance of Ballroom and Latin dancing in present day. My opening sequence represents the two age groups: under 10’s and over 25’s. My aims are to illustrate the physical and mental benefits of dancing, why it helps with discipline. My specific audience is people ages between 16-25, I will attract my specific audience by having presenters in that age bracket. I will converge my two media platforms by using the same colour palette and the same presenter. I will also include the same characters (dancers) that I have used in the website. The channel my documentary will be based upon is Bbc3 I will use a presenter who will wear smart/business clothing. My documentary will be intended to educate, inform and entertain. I will use a mise-en-scene of the dancers wear their dancing dresses / suits. The women dancers will have their hair done as it would be in a competition, while their hair is in a bun with hair piece’s. They will have dramatic ballroom style makeup with glitter. There will be dancing shoes. The men will have slicked hair, fake tanned and black dancing shoes with the heel. The documentary sequence will take place at distinct locations; the upstairs and downstairs dancing halls and the areas the trophies are displayed, there will be clips at dancing competitions and at people’s houses which they will then talk about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet. Another location is showing is the park, my presenter will introduce the programme and talk about where she’s going and what she’s going to be talking about, this will attract an audience because I aim to inspire and educate those who are interested in fitness and mental wellbeing. I will use bright pink undertones and glitter in order to intertextually link to the programme ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Additionally, I will have a disco ball throughout. I will make my branding clear by using the same colours / fonts / design elements. For lighting, in various shots, I will use the disco ball and its spotlights. I will use high key lighting for the children and the daytime classes, for the adult evening classes I will use low key lighting. I plan to use transitions between practice dancing and competition dancing showing different narratives. I will demonstrate the different sides of the dancing aesthetic.
